Skills, attitudes and uptake of evidence-based practice: a cross-sectional study of chiropractors in the Swedish Chiropractic Association

Abstract Background Evidence-based practice (EBP) is integral to the delivery of high-quality health care. Chiropractic has been a licensed profession in Sweden since 1989, but little known uptake EBP this professional group. This study explored self-reported skills, attitudes and EBP, enablers barriers uptake, among chiropractors Sweden. Methods Licensed ( n = 172) Swedish Association (Legitimerade Kiropraktorers Riksorganisation) were invited participate an anonymous online questionnaire, using Evidence-Based Practice Attitude Utilisation Survey (EBASE) February 2019. Results Fifty-six (33%) completed survey. Participants predominantly male, aged 30–49 years, held Master’s degree, had received their highest qualification practiced chiropractic for over decade. Chiropractors rated skill-level mostly moderate moderate-high range. The majority reported positive towards with most agreeing or strongly that necessary chiropractic, assists making decisions about patient average level engagement activities. All participants indicated literature research findings useful day-to-day practice. main perceived enabler was internet access workplace, whereas barrier lack clinical evidence chiropractic. Conclusions Participating generally favourable though only modest levels EBP-related skills Our suggest future studies investigating interventions focussed on improving chiropractors’ are warranted.
